Jean Grey #3 Review: Clones, Infernos, And Revelations

This is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World.

This video is my review of Jean Grey #3, the third issue of Jean’s mini-series by Louise Simonson and Bernard Chang. In this issue, Jean continues navigating the past in hopes of fixing the present. This time, she returns to the events of Inferno and her confrontation with her clone, Madelyne Pyror. It was a fiery conflict that became a defining moment for her and Cyclops.

But even as she battles the Goblin Queen, the present is finally starting to catch up to her. And it sets the stage for a truly uncanny finale to this series.

X-Men Gold #30: How To Ruin Multiple Iconic Romances In A Single Comic

This is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World.

This video revisits a somewhat controversial comic that has garnered mixed feelings among comic book fans. X-Men Gold #30 was billed as the wedding between Kitty Pryde and Piotr Rasputin, a well-known romance that had been blossoming for years leading up to this comic. And this wedding promised to be the culmination of their relationship.

However, that’s not how things played out. Yes, a couple did get married in this issue, but it wasn’t Kitty and Pitor. It was Rogue and Gambit.

But regardless of how you feel about the pairing, this comic found a way to cheapen every romance involved. And I feel it offers some frustrating, but relevant messages for future superhero marriages.

Storm And Black Panther: How NOT To Do A Superhero Romance

This is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World. Superhero romances are always complicated. And while I’m a big fan of romance, there are times when those complications aren’t handled particularly well. The end result is a romance that neither works nor benefits any of the characters involved.

That’s how I feel about the way the romance between Storm and Black Panther. Their marriage in the mid-2000s was a huge event, marketed as the culmination of a romance between Marvel Comics’ most prominent black characters. But it didn’t last. It didn’t work. And with the benefit of hindsight, I believe it to be a case study in how NOT to do a superhero romance.

Jack’s Comic Gems: Meet The Skrulls

This is another video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World. This is another addition to my “Jack’s Comic Gems” collection. And this particular gem stands out because it’s a story about the Skrulls and just before the debut of Secret Invasion, no less.

Anybody who has read a lot of Marvel comics know that stories about the Skrulls tend to be predictable, revolving around infiltration and invasion. Meet The Skrulls dares to be something more. It’s not just a story about Skrull agents infiltrating Earth. It’s a story about family. And it’s a story about how that family fights to survive when both humans and even their fellow Skrulls work against them. Enjoy!

IT’S OFFICIAL: ULTIMATE MARVEL IS RETURNING!

This is another video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World. This video is me reacting to Marvel’s big announcement that Ultimate Marvel is returning. After the events of Ultimate Invasion, Jonathan Hickman is set to launch a rebooted version of the Ultimate Universe for a new generation. Having advocated for this in previous videos, I am very excited about this. But I also have reservations that are worth highlighting as we prepare for this new Marvel universe. Enjoy!

Superman Earth One Video: The Most Underrated Man Of Steel

This is another video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World. This video is me highlighting and celebrating Superman: Earth One, a 2012 graphic novel from DC Comics that gave us a unique version of the Man of Steel. Superman has had many iterations over the years. Some are more memorable than others. But Superman: Earth One gave us something special. As a story and a take on this iconic character, it delivered a Superman that has only gotten better with age. And I break down why in this video. Enjoy!

Why The Death Of Ms. Marvel Is Dumb (Amazing Spider-Man #26 Spoilers)

This is another video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World. #msmarvel #spiderman #amazingspiderman #kamalakhan In this video, I react to the news that Ms. Marvel is set to die in Amazing Spider-Man #26 and why it’s an objectively dumb move for comic run that has been incredibly frustrating for fans.

How The New DC Cinematic Universe Can Succeed (Or Fail)

This is another video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World. This video is a deep dive into the past, future, and potential of the DC Cinematic Universe (a.k.a. the DCEU). Now that it’s all but official that the whole endeavor is getting revamped, I explore what the new DCEU needs to do in order to succeed and the potential pitfalls it might face. I’m genuinely rooting for DC and Warner Brothers to succeed. But they will face major challenges to become a full-fledged cinematic universe.

Why Mr. Sinister Should Be The X-Men’s Main Villain In The MCU

This is another video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World. This video is me making the case for Mr. Sinister to being the X-Men’s primary antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was only teased briefly in the Fox movies. And we’ve already had over a decade of Magneto being the X-Men’s main villain on the big screen. The time is right for Mr. Sinister to show just how devious he can be. And given the current state of the MCU, the timing couldn’t be better. Enjoy!
