In this video, I give my review and reaction to Ultimate Wolverine #1. The announcement for this series reinvigorated my interest in the new Ultimate Universe. And while this issue did have a few concerning moments, it still delivered in some major ways that have major implications for the future of the Ultimate Universe.

In this video, I reflect on how Marvel’s all-new, all-different Ultimate Universe has developed over the course of the past year. It has been generally good, but with a fair amount of not-so-good here and there. Things did slow for a while, but new series and new developments in 2025 hold great promise that’s definitely worth discussing. Enjoy!

This video is another entry in my “Jack’s Comic Gems” series. This time, I highlight a brief, but memorable mini-series that reimagines the classic House of X/Powers of X story, but in the world of X-Men 92. It’s a unique, but uncanny combination that proves to be a quality gem for all the right reasons.
And once again, I plan to attend. As I am typing this right now, I am making my final preparations. I’ve got my pass, I’ve got my costume, and I’ve got a stack of comics that I hope to get signed by my favorite artists and writers.
There’s so much I want to see. And while I know for certain I won’t get to see everything, I’m confident it’ll be another wonderful experience to remember. I’ve documentedmy pasttrips to New York Comic Con before. Every time I go, I encounter so many amazing people and forge memories that I deeply cherish. This trip has since become a highlight every year. And I look forward to making this year just as special.

DC Comics’ new Absolute Universe has arrived. An all-new, much darker DC Universe has emerged. And our first glimpse of this world unfolds in Absolute Batman #1.
It’s the most ambitious reinvention of Batman in years. And Scott Snyder really accomplishes something special with this first issue. I would go so far to argue that this is the most important Batman comic of the past 25 years and this new Absolute Batman is one of the most imposing versions of Batman we’ve ever gotten. Enjoy!

This video recounts the brilliant, but controversial message of the first Joker movie. A lot has happened with this character over the years. But Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix offered a take that has resonated in ways that are both remarkable and distressing.

In this video, I highlight and explore one of my favorite episodes of Batman: The Animated Series. While Batman has one of the best rogue’s gallery in all of comics, this episode had him clash with a different kind of enemy.
Like Bruce Wayne, they’re billionaires.
Unlike Bruce Wayne, they choose to be villains.
But it’s why they make such a choice that’s truly remarkable. And the nature of that choice does a lot to affirm why Batman’s story is so powerful. Enjoy!

In an era where there’s a glut reboots and relaunches, there are some that are worth giving a chance more than others. And recently, Image Comics gave Witchblade, an influential series from the mid-1990s, a full revamp. This series has not been relevant in a long time.
But after checking out the first issue, I’m convinced. This is one reboot we should embrace.

This video is another thought experiment about the nature of power and wielding it effectively. Whether in ancient times or during a modern day election season, people seek power and they seek to wield it. The extent to which they’re effective tends to vary wildly.
But that raises an important question. Just how much power can one person effectively wield?
The implications of this question are far-reaching. Our society needs people in power to run effectively. But what is the limit? And how do we navigate it? I welcome any additional insights or thoughts. Enjoy!
