Jack’s CreepyPastas: I Had Thanksgiving With A Cannibal

This is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World.

This video is a CreepyPasta story that’s a sequel, of sorts, to my previous story, The Huntwood Cannibal. I also made sure this one had a very distinct Thanksgiving theme. Enjoy!

Ode To Sweatpants: The Perfect Piece Of Clothing

I don’t consider myself highly sophisticated when it comes to fashion. Sure, I wear men’s suits and I am aware of certain types of designer clothes, some of which I do wear from time to time. But for the most part, my tastes in clothes are very simple.

If it’s comfortable, I wear it.

For that reason, a non-insignificant part of my wardrobe consists of shirts, pants, socks, and underwear that I buy discount from Walmart or Amazon. Aside from my professional attire, I never splurge much on clothes of any kind. I also don’t buy new clothes too often. There are clothes in my drawers right now that I’ve had for nearly 10 years. They’re still intact. They’re still comfortable. So, I continue to wear them.

In that sense, I’m not someone who can do much in terms of fashion statements. However, there is one particular sentiment regarding fashion on which I am very passionate. And it’s this.

Sweatpants are the single greatest piece of clothing ever made.

Seriously, I dare anyone to challenge that.

In terms of function, comfort, and sheer simplicity, sweatpants really do have it all. They’re something you can throw on at a moment’s notice. You don’t have to worry about zippers, buttons, or anything like that. They’re also easy to wash. You don’t need to iron them or use some kind of fancy soaps. And for the most part, they’re cheap and easy to fit.

It doesn’t matter what your gender might be.

It doesn’t matter how rich or poor you might be.

It doesn’t matter what god you worship, who you vote for, who you interact with, or what your interests might be.

Sweatpants still feel great! Even in hot weather, they offer a special kind of comfort that’s hard to find with any other clothing. And after a long hard day of wearing work clothes of any kind, there’s just something inherently relaxing about throwing on a pair of sweatpants for the evening.

I’m not just speaking from experience, either. I’ve watched peoples’ moods radically change for the better the moment they shed whatever they happen to be wearing and put on a nice pair of sweatpants. They become more relaxed, less tense, and just happier overall. I’ve yet to see another piece of clothing have that kind of impact on so many people.

I know it sounds like I’m just raving and ranting about sweatpants. But I find myself singing their praise more and more, especially whenever I’ve had to wear my professional attire for extended periods. Yes, there’s a time and place to look good, dignified, and well-groomed. But there’s also a time to just put on something unfashionably comfortable and just relax. And no other piece of clothing does that like sweatpants.

So, to whoever invented sweatpants and to those who continue to make them, I thank you. The world sucks slightly less because of sweatpants.

Jack’s Comic Gems | X-Men ’92 House Of XCII

This is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World.

This video is another entry in my “Jack’s Comic Gems” series. This time, I highlight a brief, but memorable mini-series that reimagines the classic House of X/Powers of X story, but in the world of X-Men 92. It’s a unique, but uncanny combination that proves to be a quality gem for all the right reasons.

The Critic: A Forgotten (But Relevant) 90s Animated Gem

This is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World.

This video revisits and celebrates The Critic, one of my favorite shows from the 90s. This brief, but memorable animated series was unique in so many ways. It was even ahead of its time in how it approached modern movies. Even though it ended too soon, it left quite a mark that’s worth exploring.

How To Tell If You’re In A Cult And Why it Matters

This is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World.

This video is about cults and how to tell if you might be in one. It was a difficult video to make in that I tried to be sensitive to the difference between a cult and a religion. I also tried to be fair in discussing those who get roped into cults. These people are often victimized by these groups and it is important to keep that in mind when discussing this topic.

I also highlight the BITE model when determining the practices of cults. If you’d like to know more about this model, please see the link below.

It’s Election Day, America! VOTE!

Today is the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November. That means that, here in America, it’s Election Day.

It also means that, if you’re of legal age and status, you should definitely vote. I already encouraged everyone to make plans a few months ago. Now, it’s time to put those plans into action.

I know you’re probably sick of seeing endless election ads.

I know you’re probably sick of politics, in general. Believe me, I am too. There’s nothing I would love more than to see the non-stop news coverage surrounding this election finally end. But that only happens if we all do our part and vote.

There’s a lot I can say about the current state of politics. I think I’ve made plenty of my positions clear over the years, so I won’t re-hash them. I’m sure there’s a lot I can say about the stakes in this election. Every year, it seems, we’re faced with the most important election of our lifetime. It may sound generic, but it’s true.

Every election in a democracy matters.

Every election in every year matters.

Today is every American’s chance to make their voice heard and make their vote matter. Do it!

There will be plenty of time to digest the politics later once all the votes are counter. For now, just get out there and vote!

Let’s do this, America.

Commemorating A Heroic Pizza Delivery Guy Who Worked During A Hurricane

As a lifelong fan of superhero comics and superhero media, in general, I like to think I appreciate heroes more than most. I understand what makes the characters I read about in comics heroes. I also understand what makes people in the real world heroes.

There are the doctors who work during crises and pandemics.

There are the firefighters, soldiers, police officers, and EMT’s who work during disasters.

There are the scientists and researchers working on treatments to deadly diseases.

Those people are all real-world heroes who we should celebrate every chance we get. Our society would not be where it is right now without them.

But sometimes, you don’t have to have the skills, qualifications, and degrees to be a hero on that level. It is still possible to be a hero on a smaller, more local level. To prove that point, I’d like to highlight an example of a hero who did something small for me and my family during a difficult time. But this seemingly minor act left a big impression.

Like most heroic acts, this occurred during a crisis. A historic hurricane was bearing down on my hometown. It wasn’t going to hit us directly, but it promised to be a once-in-a-century storm the likes of which my area had not experienced in a long time. This is an area where you can count all the hurricanes that hit us on one hand. This just happened to be a perfect storm of conditions that put us in its path.

Since some members of my family have experience dealing with hurricanes, we prepared as best we could. However, when the storm came, it not surprisingly knocked out power out for an extended period. That was a problem on many levels. But what compounded that problem is the food we’d originally prepared was not usable for reasons I don’t care to divulge.

So, that left us in a difficult position. We needed some food. But not a lot of restaurants were open. However, we did manage to call this one pizza place that somehow remained open. And much to our delight, they were willing to deliver two large pizza to us in this storm.

So, we placed our order. And the task of driving through this historic storm to deliver our food fell upon this college-aged guy who probably would’ve preferred to stay home that day. But, like all heroes, he stepped up when the time came. He did not hesitate in the face of such an arduous challenge. He drove his undersized Buick through high winds, heavy downpours, and booming thunder to make that delivery.

My family and I were even wondering if he would make it. If he didn’t, then I don’t think anyone of us would’ve blamed him.

But he showed up to make that delivery. He even showed up on time and under 30 minutes. This brave young man delivered two large pizzas to our house while we were without power, air conditioning, or entertainment of any kind. Needless to say, we thanked him profusely and tipped him generously. I still don’t doubt he would’ve preferred to not be working that day. But I’m glad he did.

Delivering pizzas may not seem inherently heroic. It’s a thankless job that most of us don’t think twice about anymore. But when someone steps up to deliver our food during a historic storm when so many others wouldn’t, that’s not just dedication to a job. That’s heroic, plain and simple.

So, to that brave pizza delivery guy who navigated a historic storm that day, on behalf of my family and all those who love pizza and hate hurricanes, I sincerely thank you. You are a true hero in my eyes.
