Happy 4th Of July 2025!

My fellow Americans, today is the 4th of July. Regardless of your politics, your attitudes, or your outlook on the future of this country, today is a day for celebration.

Following the news or engaging in one too many political debates can often obscure our perspective. To simply be born in America during a time like this, out of all the other places where we could’ve been born, isn’t just a privilege. It’s a stroke of luck that we should not make light of.

The United States of America is far from a perfect nation. Its history and people are complicated and often mired in controversy. But that’s less a reflection of a nation and more a byproduct of humans, in general, being so imperfect.

But despite our imperfections, we were able to come together and build a nation like America. We may not always uphold its greatest ideals, but those ideals are worth striving for, fighting for, and dying for in times of crisis.

So for today, remember those American ideals. Cherish them. Celebrate them. We have a long ways to go as a country. But to get to a better future, let’s just celebrate the gift we’ve been giving as Americans here in the present.

Happy 4th of July!

Team America World Police: The Greatest (And Most Honest) Patriotic Movie Of All Time

This is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World.

In the spirit of America and all it stands for, I made this video to celebrate a very special movie that truly captures the essence of patriotism. That movie is Team America: World Police.

Yes, it has puppets, profanity, and barfing. But it is the most genuine, honest portrayal of American patriotism in the history of cinema. And that makes it worth celebrating. Enjoy!

Happy 4th Of July!

Today is the 4th of July.

For many of my fellow Americans, this is a day of celebration that’s likely to include cookouts, fireworks, cold drinks, and any number of patriotic displays. Whether it takes the form of a parade, waving American flags, or just wearing something red, white, and blue, this is the time to celebrate the best our country has to offer. As an American, I intend to do my part.

I’ve got a six-pack of beer.

I’ve got a pack of hot dogs.

I’ve got burger patties, buns, and enough ketchup to last for the rest of the summer.

And not far from where I live, there’s a fireworks display that I can usually see from the roof of my home. I am as prepared as any citizen can be to celebrate America. And I intend to do so.

Now, I understand it has become difficult for many Americans to celebrate when news, politics, and social ills seem populate our media feeds at every waking hour. I freely admit that the constant barrage of soul-crushing, heartbreaking, and utterly infuriating stories has affected me. I’ll even freely admit it has weakened my once robust faith in humanity.

The fact that 2024 is an Election Year is also not lost upon me, but I’d rather not dwell on that today.

I freely admit America has its flaws, as a nation and as a society. You don’t have to look too far back in history to find those flaws. You also don’t have to look hard to find major flaws today. But that’s okay. Every nation and every society that has ever existed has had flaws. That’s because human beings, as a whole, are very flawed. But that’s all the more reason to strive to be better versions of ourselves.

As Americans, we can certainly do better on many fronts. But for today, let’s just set the politics and social issues aside. Let’s table our many problems for a brief moment to just acknowledge how far we’ve come. America, for all its flaws and missteps, is a wonderful nation full of amazing people.

That’s worth celebrating.

That’s worth cherishing.

That’s worth sharing good food, cold drinks, and some fireworks on a hot summer day.

There will be plenty of time to confront the many issues facing this country and its role in the world. For now, let’s celebrate!

To my fellow Americans, Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th Of July! (With A Special Message To America)

My fellow Americans, today is the 4th of July.

It’s an important day for this country. We celebrate it for a reason and that reason goes beyond fireworks, barbecue, burgers, and beer. To us, America is more than a country. It’s more than a nationality or identity. It embodies certain ideals and principles for what a nation and its people can be. What began as thirteen British colonies has grown into fifty states that vary in many ways. But they are all still American.

These ideals are certainly worth celebrating.

These principles are definitely worth cherishing, embracing, and espousing to the utmost.

They were all bold ideas put forth by equally bold men on July 4, 1776. And in the many years since that date, the United States of America has grown and evolved in many ways. But it couldn’t have gotten far with these that special identity that ultimately became the heart of this country.

Now, I remind my fellow Americans of this to offer more than a patriotic sentiment for this very special national holiday. More than anything else, I offer it as a reminder. Because, like any nation or people, America is not perfect. Acknowledging that doesn’t make you less patriotic. It’s necessary to put America and all it stands for into a proper context.

You can ignore history all you want, but there’s no getting around it.

America has had its growing pains.

There have been dark times in our history, some of which we’re still recovering from.

We, as a nation and a people, have not always lived up to the ideals this Country embodies. We have not always extended the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to others. Whether it’s out of bigotry, racism, sexism, xenophobia, or the many ugly prejudices that come with partisan politics, we make many excuses to divide ourselves.

But at the end of the day, we still share this nation. We’re still Americans. To deny such courtesy to others who love this country every bit as much is simply un-American, by default. We are a nation of many diverse people and voices. But we live together in this remarkable country. We all want it to thrive and be the best it can be. Even if we don’t agree on the method, we can still share in the goals.

There are still many challenges before us. Some come from those who have a vision of America that’s utterly antithetical to the principles of freedom and liberty. Some come from those within our own government who care less about their country and more about how it can enrich or empower them. Some come from problems that were present at the founding, which have left lasting scars that we’re still recovering from.

There’s a large gap between the Country we are now and what we strive to be. But those goals and the ideals behind them are still worth pursuing. They’re still worth striving for, whether it’s by working, voting, or serving your community in some meaningful way. We can debate and argue over the path we’re taking. But for today, let’s just take a step back and celebrate how far we’ve come while also not forgetting how much farther we have to go.

So, to my fellow Americans, Happy 4th of July!

A Brief Message On Love And Patriotism

How the American Flag Became a Threat | Time

I’m a proud American and I love my country. In that respect, I do consider myself a patriot.

I’m also a big romance fan who genuinely appreciates the power of love.

As a result, my understanding of love has an impact on my understanding of patriotism. You can look up the definition of patriotism and love to get a basic understanding of the concept. However, a basic understanding will only take you so far. It’s also shallow. It only scratches the surface of a much deeper feeling.

Now, in the spirit of the 4th of July, America’s most patriotic holiday, I thought I’d take a moment to share my understanding of what it means to be patriotic and to love your country. I feel like it’s an important message to send, given the events of the past year.

I won’t bemoan those events or the people, politics, and ideology behind it. Love and patriotism go beyond all that. This is me, a proud American, seeking to share my perspective with my other fellow Americans as we get ready to celebrate the country we so deeply love.

To love your country is like to love your family. You didn’t choose the time, place, or circumstances of your birth. You came into it vulnerable and unaware. You grow up in it with the support, guidance, and values of those around you. They seek to protect you and you seek to learn from them.

It’s not always ideal. Nothing ever is. That doesn’t stop you from loving your family, nor does it stop you from loving your country.

Later on in life, you seek a different kind of love with another. You look for that special someone who you can love with all your heart and who will love you back in return. It’s not an easy search. You’re bound to endure loss, heartache, and disappointment along the way, but you keep searching. You endure because that feeling and that connection is just that powerful.

When you find that love, you sense that power. It fills you with energy, passion, and resolve. You come to cherish it. You’re willing to fight to protect it at all costs. We admire that kind of drive in others. We cling to it, as it becomes part of our identity.

This kind of love is very similar to patriotism. Our love for our country is very much an extension of our love for our family. The same energy that drives us to love, cherish, and protect our loved ones drives us to do the same for our country. Many Americans share that feeling. However, like with the love we have for families and spouses, it can blind us.

There’s a fine line between love and obsession.

By that same token, there’s a fine line between patriotism and blind loyalty.

One is healthy and productive while the other is toxic and damaging. A big part of loving someone is not ignoring their flaws. When they’re wrong, you point it out. When they’re doing something destructive, you try to stop them. When they’re wounded, lost, or angry, you try to help them. That’s what you do for someone you love. That’s also what you do for your country.

The United States of America is a wonderful place, but it’s not perfect. The history of this country has has many dark moments. Both the government and large swaths of its citizens have been wrong, unjust, and misguided on a great many subjects since its founding. Ignoring that isn’t an act of love or patriotism. In fact, it’s the exact opposite.

You don’t let someone you love keep doing what you know is wrong.

You don’t let someone you love descend into toxic, self-destructive cycles.

You don’t let someone you love forget their mistakes, thereby never learning from them.

The same applies to your country. To love it is to love its flaws, too. To love it is to want to see it get better. Like with those we love, we want them to become the best version of themselves they can be. Again, it’s challenging and even daunting at times. However, we endure because that’s what we do for someone we love.

As a patriot, you want your country to be the best it can be. That’s exactly what I want for America. That’s what I seek to celebrate every Fourth of July holiday.

I understand that not everyone has the same vision for this country as I do. Some actively pursue a vision for this country that’s utterly antithetical to the ideals it was founded upon all those years ago. Those are not patriots because they aren’t guided by love. They’re guided by selfish agendas.

In both love and patriotism, you can’t be selfish. You can’t be guided by hate or malice. You have to be willing to do what’s right and difficult over what’s selfish and expedient. You and those you love will make mistakes. Everybody does. We’re all flawed, imperfect human beings. Every country, including America, is made up of those same beings.

That’s why we keep striving to be better. Like any good loving relationship, you encourage those you love to be better with you. You work together, but not by always agreeing on everything or avoiding conflict. True love is a willingness to take the bad with the good and confront both.

This is a perspective that has always been crucial for patriotic Americans, but never more so than recently. After over 200 years, we’ve had plenty of time to grow and mature. We’re not a young country anymore. We’re one of the most powerful nations on the planet. With that power comes responsibility and we must never forget that.

Keep that in mind as you celebrate your love for your country, as I will be doing in a few days. Each year brings a new challenge for us all. Let’s be willing to face it, but let us do so while remembering what it truly means to love our country as true patriots.

Independence Day: A Best Case Scenario For First Contact?

The following is a video from my YouTube channel, Jack’s World. In the spirit of the 4th of July, I decided to do a deep dive into one of my favorite movies of all time, “Independence Day.” Given it’s timely, patriotic themes, I’m sure many will watch at some point in July. However, I believe this movie has more to offer than rousing speeches and alien battles.

I believe this movie presents us with a unique scenario for first contact with extraterrestrial aliens. While it’s a dark, destructive scenario, it may ultimately be the best scenario we can hope for. That may sound strange, but I try to make that case in this vide. Enjoy and have a wonderful 4th of July!

Happy 4th Of July!

To my fellow Americans, but current and aspiring, I wish you a very Happy 4th of July.

I promise there’s no cynicism in that sentiment. I also acknowledge that 2020 has been one of the most trying years in the history of the United States in over a century. It has certainly been one of the toughest years I’ve been through in my lifetime. As much a patriot as I am, I don’t deny that this year has brought out the best and worst aspects of America.

However, as hard as it might be to maintain some level of optimism, I remain proud of my country. I’m proud to be an American. I also intend to celebrate this day in whatever way I can. There may be no cookouts or large gatherings, but you don’t need those things to appreciate America. I encourage all other proud Americans to do the same.

Find a way to celebrate your country.

Find a way to celebrate freedom, liberty, and equality for all.

Find a way to cherish the ideals of what America represents, even in times of crisis.

Tough times make tough people. Tough Americans make a tougher country. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. For now, let’s celebrate how far we’ve come.

“Rooftop Fireworks” A Sexy Short Story (For The 4th Of July)

president_and_first_lady_obama_watch_fireworks_07-04-09

The following is a sexy short story I wrote in celebration of the 4th of July. To all the proud Americans out there, especially the brave men and women serving in the military, this day is for you. In the spirit of patriotism, I wrote a story that I hope combines the best elements of patriotism and sexiness. Enjoy!

“God bless America, indeed,” said Brent Braxton in a proud, patriotic tone.

“Amen to that, my darling lieutenant,” said his wife Janet Braxton, matching his tone as only she could.

“Hey, we’re not in the marines anymore. You don’t have to keep calling me lieutenant.”

“I know, but it’s not my fault you love it so damn much.”

“Point taken,” the former marine.

They shared a good laugh and a glowing smile. Brent gladly raised his half-empty beer bottle to the cloudless night sky. His beautiful wife of four years did the same, tapping her bottle with his. It capped off what had been an eventful 4th of July thus far and for a couple of veterans who’d met on a military base, that carried greater meaning.

They’d both taken very different paths to get to this moment. Brent was born in the United States, but his parents were immigrants who barely spoke English when they first arrived. Conversely, Janet came from several generations of red-blooded Americans who could trace their lineage back to the Revolutionary War. He joined the marines after losing out on a college scholarship. Janet joined because enlisting in the military was practically a rite of passage for her family. Logistically speaking, their paths never should’ve crossed.

Being a marine taught him a lot about being American. However, when he met Janet on a routine visit to vehicle maintenance facility, he learned more than he ever could’ve imagined. She wasn’t just the quintessential American woman. She radiated a strong, free-wheeling spirit that would’ve endeared her to any soldier. She took all those patriotic platitudes that most people rarely scrutinize and gave it a face…a beautiful, angelic face.

Holding her in his arms while sitting on the roof of their quiet suburban home, Brent still couldn’t believe that this American angel fell in love with him. Every time she latched onto his arm and caressed his face, it affirmed that love was real. On the 4th of July – the same date he proposed to her, no less – that love became part of the festivities.

“You know, it’s funny,” Brent mused as he set his beer aside.

“What is, love?” Janet asked.

“How people ask God to bless America, as though it needs more at this point,” he said distantly. “I certainly thought that as a kid. Whenever my parents told me about where they’d come from, even simple comforts like air conditioning seemed like divine gifts.”

“Whereas my family didn’t believe in gifts,” she said. “You worked for everything and you celebrated when you earned it. That’s the American way, according to my dad.”

“It still seemed like a dream to my parents,” Brent went on. “Where they came from, even hard work didn’t always earn you much. In fact, there was a good chance it earned you precisely dick. For a while, I wasn’t sure if growing up in America would be any different. Then, after serving my country, meeting you, and seeing other parts of the world, I realized something profound.”

He turned towards his beautiful wife, pulled her deeper into his embrace, and caressed the face that still made his heart skip a beat. The star-lit sky, the full moon, and the lights in the distance made every aspect of her beauty so clear. On the 4th of July, she seemed to glow even brighter. When she smiled back and placed her hands over his, he felt truly blessed. All those patriotic sentiments that he’d heard all day resonated on a new level.

“I believe that when people say, God bless America, they’re not just asking for more of those gifts. I don’t even think it has anything to do with being lucky for being in such a wonderful country,” said Brent.

“Then, what do you think it means?” Janet asked intently.

He paused for a brief moment, collecting his thoughts so he could do justice to both the woman and the country he loved. On the 4th of July, he could do no less.

“It’s an acknowledgement,” Brent said, “a sign of immense gratitude for a blessing that we received long ago, but still appreciate to this day…especially on a day like today.”

“The 4th of July,” she said, as if to acknowledge it with him.

“The fact this country exists is a blessing. It’s a place where a guy like me can grow up feeling out of place, but find purpose. It’s a place where my parents can actually earn a better life from all their hard work. We don’t have to have lengthy legacy like yours to receive these gifts. We just have to share in the same uniquely American spirit.”

“My God, that’s patriotic. And that’s coming from someone whose father made her memorize all 50 states and all U.S. territories by age seven,” Janet said.

“I know. It’s corny as hell.”

“Did I say I minded?” Janet replied, along with another warm smile.

She leaned in and kissed him. Patriotism often did that to her. Being a marine, herself, and the daughter of such proud Americans, expressing love for America wasn’t just a formality. It meant a lot to her. Between serving his country and marrying her, Brent had come to cherish that meaning every bit as much.

Under the skies of a perfect 4th of July evening, he savored every second of her kiss. With that American spirit he loved, she wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened their embrace. Brent shared in that spirit, slipping his arms around her waist and immersing himself within her loving warmth. Even in the summer heat, it felt so intoxicating.

Both the spirit of the 4th of July and the spirit of their love intensified their passions. Simple kissing morphed into deeper gestures. Hands roamed, tongues twirled, and hot bodies pressed together, even after a day of barbecues and community events. They both smelled like charred burgers, cold beer, and over-cooked fries. They both radiated all things American. He and Janet just had to celebrate their blessings to the utmost.

What began as a loving kiss had become a full-blown make-out session. Brent had planned on getting intimate with his wife at some point that night, but he didn’t think it would happen on the roof of their house. He was tempted to break the kiss and ask if she’d like to take this back inside. Before he could, the booming echoes of fireworks in the distance erupted in the night sky.

Suddenly, he remembered why he and Janet had chosen to sit out on the roof in the first place. It gave them the perfect view of the annual fireworks show at the nearby lake. As the sky lit up and their patriotic passions kept flowing, a new desire took hold. In the spirit of American independence, he sought a more ambitious form of celebration.

“Hey Janet,” Brent said breathlessly as more fireworks filled the sky.

“Yes, my darling?” said Janet.

“Let’s make love,” he said to her, “up here…on the roof…under the fireworks.”

“And on the 4th of July?” she replied with a beaming smile. “God, I feel as blessed as my country right now!”

“I hope that’s not all your feeling.”

“Believe me. I’m feeling more than just patriotism right now!”

Inspired by both love and liberty, they kissed again and just as a large plume of reddish fireworks erupted overhead. It was like America itself was encouraging them to celebrate the freedom they cherished. At that moment, it became clear that the fireworks weren’t going to be the only 4th of July spectacle they enjoyed.

As the fireworks erupted overhead, he and Janet quickly shed their clothes. Thanks to the summer heat, they didn’t have much to take off. He’d just worn an old T-shirt and jeans. She’d worn denim shorts and a right, white, and blue halter top. True to her libertine spirit, Janet got naked faster and more eagerly. She practically tore off her shirt, bra, and pants. She didn’t even care that she kicked her flip-flops off the side of the roof. Being naked outdoors on the 4th of July just seemed so American for her.

“My God…patriotism never looked so sexy,” Brent said as he gazed upon her naked form.

“Shut up and get those pants off, soldier!”

“Yes, ma’am!”

He responded as though he’d been given an order by his old drill sergeant. Janet even helped him, grabbing the sides of his pants and pulling them off along with his underwear. He didn’t care that she threw them across the roof and into a pile of dirt. He didn’t even care if someone walked by their house and saw their naked bodies under the light of the fireworks. He and his beautiful wife were going to make love in celebration of America.

“Come here, my All-American beauty,” Brent said in his most seductive voice.

“Yes, sir!” Janet replied, mirroring his soldier-like tone from moments ago.

They laughed playfully, even as the noise from the fireworks drowned out all other sounds. They embraced and kissed again, taking a brief moment to enjoy each other’s nude form. Janet had such a fit, sexy body. Being a marine and a cheerleader in high school gave her so much to admire. Her breasts, butt, legs, and lips all radiated that uniquely American beauty that helped fuel his passion for her.

She showed just as much appreciation for his masculine features. She eagerly pawed his chest, hooked her legs around his waist, and embraced him in a way that maximized skin-on-skin contact. It was Janet’s preferred approach to foreplay, letting her body lustfully grind against his while she smothered him with loving kisses. He often joked that she loved foreplay almost as much as actual lovemaking. On a night like this, it was no laughing matter.

The kissing, touching, and caressing of naked flesh helped turn intimate desire into physical arousal. That perfect combination of affection and desire did more than enough to get them both aroused. Brent could already feel the moist heat between her inner thighs, even amidst the summer humidity. She definitely felt his hardening penis press against her thigh, affirming just how much he wanted her.

By the time the sky was really flashing with multi-colored fireworks, they were both ready. Usually, he and Janet made an effort to draw out the foreplay. Knowing their window with the fireworks was limited, they had to act with both urgency and passion.

“Brent…I’m ready,” Janet told him, already breathless from so much kissing.

“So am I,” he said to her, equally winded.

“Then, do it, my American stud. Make love to me!”

With a confident grin and patriotic passion, Brent began a 4th of July celebration that would’ve made any American proud.

He shifted his grip to her butt, squeezing it hard with the strength of a trained marine. Then, with her legs still hooked around his waist, he lifted her up and aligned her body with his. He soon felt the tip of his manhood against her outer fold. Her gaze never diverting from his, she grabbed onto his shoulders in anticipation. Using the same powerful arms that he’d used to carry her into their honeymoon suite, he lowered her onto his manhood.

“Ooh Brent!” she gasped, just in time for an extra-loud burst of fireworks.

Their flesh united. His rigid member penetrated her hot depths with ease. Wet womanly flesh embraced hard masculine flesh in a perfect merging of two proud Americans. As they both soaked in the feeling, Brent lovingly caressed her face and admired her beauty amidst the dazzling spectacle of the fireworks in the background.

“Janet…my love,” he said in a daze of passion.

“Brent,” his wife replied, already far deeper in that daze.

Not much else needed to be said. Given the commotion from the fireworks, they wouldn’t have heard each other anyways. However, the dazzling sights and booming sounds of that 4th of July spectacle was secondary. On this roof, their love was the real show.

Driven by both passion and excitement, they moved their bodies in a sensual rhythm. Brent used his powerful arms to rock his lover’s hips back and forth, working her tight folds along the length of his member. She supplemented every movement with gyrations of her own, clinging harder to his shoulders and imparting just the right amount of energy to their sex.

The incline of the roof even worked to their advantage. It gave Brent extra leverage in guiding their sexual rhythm. It also allowed his beautiful wife a greater range of motion. She sensually swayed and contorted her body through the motions, as though she were dancing amidst their intimate union. He couldn’t imagine a sight more beautiful, even without the fireworks in the background.

The fireworks still had an impact. As the pace of the show picked up, so too did the pace of their lovemaking. Janet rocked her hips harder while he supplemented each movement with his arms. A more intense rhythm meant more intense sensations. As more fireworks went off, the sensual feeling escalated. Brent could feel it in his lover’s touch, from the way her nails raked down his upper back to how her inner muscles squeezed his member every time he plunged into her.

“Yes! Yes! Ohhh yes! Brent…my proud, patriotic love!” Janet exclaimed.

“Janet! Ohhh Janet! My sweet, sexy, All-American wife!” he gasped.

It was a spectacular feeling, one that fit perfectly with the fireworks in the background. As he and Janet absorbed that feeling, they kissed wildly and unleashed a torrent of blissful moans. The noise of the fireworks masked it, but they still felt it.

Their lovemaking seemed perfectly synchronized with the spectacle in the skies above them. As the volume of fireworks became greater, their heat of their sex intensified. Brent had been to enough 4th of July parties to know when the grand finale was getting closer. With each booming crackle, he and his love neared their own finale.

“Janet…so close!” Janet said over the rhythmic rocking of their bodies. “I’m so…so close.”

“Me too, Janet,” Brent replied intently. “Let’s…shoot off…together!”

“Together…under the fireworks…tonight!”

The ways he said it made it sound both sexy and patriotic. Like two determined Americans, who just happened to be trained marines, they focused their efforts like never before. The firework around them had just entered the main finale. They were going off in rapid succession, filling the skies with dazzling lights and thunderous booms. In that light, their naked bodies glowed like never before.

In that moment and under this wondrous spectacle, he and Janet capped off the finale with a shared ecstasy like no other. It felt like a 4th of July miracle because they achieved orgasm almost simultaneously. As the pleasure washed over them, they let out their most patriotic gesture to date.

“Oohhh America, yes!” they each said at once.

It would’ve been funny if it weren’t so amazingly euphoric. Just as Janet’s inner muscles clamped down around his cock, he got his release. Thick streams of his manly fluid mixed with her feminine juices, creating a harmonious mixture. Love, passion, and ecstasy took a tangible form, both in terms of the spectacle around them and the feelings coursing through them. As they held each other closely, their naked bodies perfectly enmeshed, they shared a deep kiss to complete their celebration.

As their lips were entwined, the fireworks show above them ceased. The sound of applause from bedazzled onlookers echoed through the trees. They were rightly amazed by what they just saw, but Brent doubted they felt as satisfied as him and Janet at that moment. Together, they didn’t just witness a spectacle to celebrate the country they loved. They embraced the ideals that made America worth celebrating.

“I love you,” he told her, dazed and breathless by their passion.

“I love you too,” she replied.

“Happy 4th of July, my star-spangled wife.”

“Happy 4th of July, my freedom-loving husband. Thank you…for making this American woman feel so blessed.”

“Just doing my wife and my country proud!”

When Aliens Invade The Best, Worst, And Most Likely Scenario

alien_invasion_600

It’s a common, but appealing theme in science fiction. One day, we think we’re alone in the universe. The next, aliens invade and our species is never the same. Whether it sparks a war for survival like in “Independence Day” or leads to a new era of inter-stellar cooperation like in “Mass Effect,” it’s a profound moment. It may be the one case in which our collective imagination is too limited to appreciate the implications.

The concept of first contact is daunting enough. Just discovering extraterrestrial life in the universe would be groundbreaking. Making contact with it would be downright overwhelming for our species. It might be the closest thing human beings ever get to a true religious experience, making contact with another species from the stars.

An invasion, however, carries with it a special kind of impact, albeit a traumatic kind. Science fiction tells all sorts of stories about it, but chances are that the real-world possibilities don’t come close to the fantasy we all envision. Whether it’s triumph after a stirring speech from President Whitmore or doom at the hands of Martian invaders, the truth probably somewhere in between.

I’ve argued before that the human race isn’t ready for contact with aliens, but we’re close. I also believe that if extraterrestrial aliens ever do arrive, they won’t be hostile invaders. If they’re advanced enough to travel the vast distance of the cosmos, then they’re advanced enough to not need anything here on Earth. There’s abundant water, minerals, and rare elements throughout space that are fare easier to obtain.

However, that all assumes that an extraterrestrial species would act in accord with incentives that most humans understand. That could be a flawed assumption. If an extraterrestrial species is truly alien, then their thoughts, feelings, and motivations could be alien too. It’s not impossible that a species would evolve to be inherently hostile to any other sentient life.

With that in mind, I’d like to present a few potential scenarios on how an alien invasion would play out for humanity. I believe there are a few instances in which our species would survive and even be stronger. There are also a few in which our hopes of survival are effectively zero. I don’t claim that any of these are definitive. This is just my attempt to speculate on how an invasion would pan out for humanity.

Worst Case Scenario: Aliens See Humans As Cockroaches

This is the scenario that movies like “Independence Day” or “Predator” often utilize. The invading aliens are advanced, capable of technology that traverses interstellar space with ease. They arrive on Earth, seeing its resources as ripe for the taking. They invade, seeing humans as nothing more than annoying insects. They deal with them the same way we deal with ants.

While those movies often build stories around human beings finding a way to win the day, either by discovering a hidden weakness or somehow hacking alien computers, it’s doubtful that this is how it would play out. If an alien species is hostile and they have access to technology so advanced that it might as well be magic to lesser species, then we have no chance.

In this scenario, there’s nothing humanity can do to fight back. The President Whitmores of the world could give all the inspiring speeches they want. We wouldn’t have a chance against these creatures. We would be like mosquitoes trying to stop an oncoming nuclear missile. We wouldn’t have a chance and at most, we would just annoy the aliens.

In some cases, humanity could survive by simply avoiding the aliens and live underground in hopes that they’ll eventually leave. If the invaders are intent on turning Earth into a base or strip-mining it entirely, then that’s just delaying the inevitable.

In other cases, the invading aliens could see humanity as lab rats or pets. The only reason they would keep some humans alive would be as resources. On many levels, it would be even worse than slavery because the aliens wouldn’t even value anything we could do. They would just value our flesh the same way we might value a mineral.

One way or another, humans don’t survive this invasion. We either get wiped out with ease or turned into glorified pets for aliens. It’s the one alien contact scenario we would want to avoid and one that the late Stephen Hawking dreaded the most. While I think it’s unlikely that we’ll encounter intelligent aliens this hostile, I don’t deny that it’s still a frightening possibility.

Best Case Scenario: Inept And Incompetent Invaders

This is something a lot of common sci-fi tropes rely on. You have a race of aliens advanced enough to master inter-stellar travel, but incompetent enough to lose a war against a bunch of hairless apes who kill each other over what they think happens when they die. Essentially, any story in which humanity defeats invading aliens has to rely on this.

While there are plenty of absurdities inherent in those stories, it’s not impossible to imagine an invading alien race that’s incompetent. We assume that any advanced alien race that can travel across interstellar space has to be competent to some extent. However, just because they can travel across the stars doesn’t mean they’ll be effective invaders.

The best example of this, in my opinion, comes from a series of novels by Harry Turtledove entitled “Worldwar.” In the story, an alien race invades Earth in the middle of World War II. However, the aliens in this story aren’t some unkillable monstrosities like the Xenomorphs. They’re a race of reptilian creatures who just made some false assumptions.

In the novels, which I highly recommend, the aliens advance at a much slower pace than humanity. What takes us 100 years to produce technologically takes them 1,000. When they first observed Earth, we were in medieval times. They assumed that humans advanced at a similar rate and would be push-overs by the time their fleet arrived. They were dead wrong.

If humanity ever has to deal with an alien invasion, these are the kinds of invaders we should hope for. It’s not just that they make false assumptions and grossly underestimate other species. An invasion by inept aliens means humanity has a fighting chance.

While it may still make for a bloody and brutal war, like the one that unfolds in the “Worldwar” series, that war may ultimately unite the human race in ways that would not be possible in any other scenario. Former President Ronald Reagan even pointed this out in a famous speech to the UN and I think he’s right.

Humanity has never had a singular existential threat that would require every race, ethnic group, and nation to unite. For our entire history, we’ve never had to deal with an advanced species trying to wipe us out. Having that threat means we have to work together or die. No matter how much humans disagree over trivial things, survival tends to overrule petty grievances.

In the long run, that kind of unity might help the human race come together in a way we can’t imagine, given our current state of disunity. As bad as a war against alien invaders can be, it could bring out the best in us if we have a fighting chance. Unfortunately, that chance is contingent on the invaders being incompetent and I think that’s hoping for too much.

Most Likely Scenario: Aliens Invaders Are Indifferent To Humanity

Of all the invasion scenarios, both in fiction and those with a passing connection to reality, I think this is the most likely. Again, it assumes that invading aliens are competent enough to get what they want, regardless of whether or not the human race wants it. If their technology is sufficiently advanced, it won’t matter what humanity wants.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that aliens see humans as bugs that need exterminating. It’s far more likely that they’ll see humans the same way drivers see an ant hill on the side of a major highway. They’ll barely notice. They might not even realize we’re there and we, in turn, might be completely oblivious to them.

Even if Earth has some resource that invading aliens want, it makes more sense to just take it without humans noticing. That way they don’t have to fight a war. It’s not that they couldn’t win that war with ease. It would just be exceedingly inconvenient. It would be like blowing up a dam just to water your garden.

For all we know, this has already happened. There may have been multiple occasions where intelligent aliens have passed by our planet, dropped in, and taken some resources without anyone knowing. Given how humans have only existed on this planet for a small fraction of its history, it’s entirely possible that advanced aliens have already visited and determined there’s nothing worth seeing.

Even if they did arrive at a time when humans were present, they would be plenty advanced to either evade detection or fool anyone they came across. The human brain is easy to trick, especially if aliens have some sort of cloaking technology or can shape-shift like the Skrulls in Marvel Comics. Deceiving people, even in today’s connected world, wouldn’t be too tricky for them.

If the aliens just want something minor that doesn’t require exterminating all life on Earth, it makes more sense to just slip in and take it. The only reason invading aliens would ever be hostile in this scenario is if humans got in their way or created an obstacle, of sorts. In that case, it wouldn’t entirely be the fault of the aliens for attacking.

I think this is most likely because I believe, in our current form, humans haven’t done enough to really make themselves worthy of contact with intelligent aliens. Sure, we have a space program and we’ve created world-ending technology, but we haven’t shown an ability to affect much beyond our own planet. I think until that changes, any advanced alien civilization wouldn’t have much interest in us.

That’s still assumes a lot about the intentions of advanced alien life, which can certainly be wrong. However, until we actually meet alien life, we won’t know what to expect. There are plenty of possibilities in which such contact would benefit the human race immensely, but there are far more possibilities in which that event goes horribly wrong.
